Train prisoners so they can be productive when released. Or, give non violent criminals probation and careers so they can feel productive. Incarceration is wasting your life.

Really good suggestions Karyn. I am worried that the industrial incarceration complex (similar in philosophy of the Military Industrial Complex) is at work in our state system. Unfortunately, it is well funded with influential lobbyists who have the attention of too many of our legislators. It also generates a few poorly paying jobs in the communities where they are located.

We need to start by educating or youths,. We need to set up programs for them that allows them to get training, introduce them to corporate world, and or giving them opportunities to turn their hobbies or dreams into careers. Train them and mentor them so that they can do the same for other teens. Show them love so that they can pass that love on to the other teens so hate becomes a minority and Love becomes what they live by. Peer pressure is a big issue today so lets give them hope so that they can start pressuring their peers with positivity therefore we could in turn ween out negativity
And I believe we can achieve what is really needed in this city and or cities across america.
We are living in different times than we grew up in so it is a different fights so lets start to look at these problems openly and differently and we should gain some type of change

Yesterday Trump tweeted that if Detroit cannot get the violence drastically reduced asap that he will send in the feds. If you Google Detroit along with jobs cuts you will see the many big job suppliers have moved out of the neighborhoods that made them into big job suppliers.
So Trump’s answer is more police and more prisoners. I tweeted back to him “Send in employers not more police, Jobs Not Jails.
Creating more division has been shown throughout history to beING a failed approach.
We need job skill training. Too often our prison system has just thrown people back into communities without any resources. They drastically cut the number of pre release beds in Massachusetts as most leaving the system are leaving from behind the walls of dysfunction.
It quickly becomes basic survival for returning people. These behaviors are what put them in prison 5 to 10 yrs ago. The point is, after serving time in the dysfunctional machine aka doc and being put down, discouraged and berated only to be released into immediate despair and homelessness.
We can do much better as human beings together. Many organizations and many faith based houses are joining foraces to bring about change. The goal is a better quality of life for everyone.
Add in substance abuse challenges and mental health struggles on top of the situation and the challenges become more complex, not impossible. We need all hands on deck, together united we can address it all.

This statement rings true no spirit of division can bring about any good in the world or in any group or organization practice what you preach.
